Barbotage [Calcific Tendinosis]
Post Procedure Advice

Please read the following advice to reach the expected outcome: Barbotage [per-cutaneous needling] procedure [injection Steroid+ Local Anaesthetic+ Saline] has anti-inflammatory + Painkiller+ anti-adhesive and breaking the calcific tendon deposits to treat your pain.

Post Barbotage possible symptoms:

  • Swelling for 24-48 hours
  • Pain flare-up for 24 hours

Local Anaesthetic effect is immediate and may last for 6-8 hours, Steroid effect will start 72 hours after the injection & the maximum effect will be 14 days after the injection.

Post-Barbotage care:

  • For the next 24 hours, take regular, every 6 hours, Paracetamol or Codeine or Combination of [Paracetamol & Codeine] or your regular pain killers.
  • Rest for 24-48 hours
  • Apply icepack on the injection site for 10 minutes every 2-3 hours for the next 24 hours to decrease the post injection pain [avoid applying the icepack directly on the skin to avoid any frostbite]
  • We advise you not to drive for the rest of the day. Most patients can return to driving the following day, but you should not drive until you feel safe.
  • No excessive physical activities or exercises for 7-10 days.
  • Contact your GP and/or Your Physiotherapist as soon as possible to arrange your physical therapy [physiotherapy] gradually 7 days after the injection.
  • Contact your GP to arrange further follow-up and / or further investigations / images accordingly.
  • Seek immediate medical advice [111 or attend the A&E] If excessive swelling, hot to touch, extensive redness & more severe pain and much more restricted range of movement [to check about any infection]

Hyaluronic Acid Injection
Post Injection Advice

Please read the following advice to reach the expected outcome:

The Hyaluronic Acid injection is prescribed to treat the OA by improving the joint hyaluronic acid layer. Indicated whenever the painful joint is not responding well to the usual daily painkillers.

Post Hyaluronic Acid injection possible symptoms:

  • Swelling for 24-48 hours
  • Pain flare-up for 24 hours

Hyaluronic Acid effect will gradually and will show its effects few months later after the injection [3-4 months]

Post-Hyaluronic Acid injection care:

  • For the next 24 hours, take regular, every 6 hours, Paracetamol or Codeine or Combination of [Paracetamol & Codeine] or your regular pain killers.
  • Rest for 24-48 hours

Steroid Injection

Steroid has anti-inflammatory effects to treat your pain.

Post steroid injection possible symptoms:

Cutaneous Cyst Removal
Post Cyst Removal Advice:

  • It is normal to see some bloody drainage on the bandage the day of surgery.
  • You may apply an ice pack over the bandage / or the dressing 10 minutes every 2 hours for comfort and reduction of swelling.
  • Diet as desired unless otherwise instructed by your surgeon.
  • No down time, You may drive after the cyst removal if you feel physically able to.
  • Follow any specific activity instructions given by your surgeon.
  • Keep the bandage / or dressing dry for 48 hours and then you may remove the bandage and shower over the incision.
  • If you see tape strips across the incision, leave these in place and shower over them. You may remove them after two weeks if desired or allow them to fall off. It is not necessary to reapply a bandage. However, you may apply one if desired to prevent irritation of sutures or staples.
  • Take your pain killer medication, if prescribed, as directed (2 paracetamol every 6 hours for 1 or 2 days if you feel pain) or as directed.
  • Seek immediate medical advice (call 111 or attend urgent care centre or the emergency department if: )
    • You develop a fever / temperature more than 38.5
    • You develop spreading redness extending one-half inch / about 4 cm or more from the incision.
    • You develop increased swelling and pain.

PRP / i-PRF Injection
Post Injection Advice

Please read the following advice to reach the expected outcome:

  • Rest for 24-48 hours
  • Apply icepack on the injection site for 10 minutes every 2-3 hours for the next 24 hours to decrease the post injection pain [avoid applying the icepack directly on the skin to avoid any frostbite]
  • We advise you not to drive for the rest of the day. Most patients can return to driving the following day, but you should not drive until you feel safe.
  • No excessive physical activities or exercises for 7-10 days.
  • Contact your GP and/or Your Physiotherapist as soon as possible to arrange your physical therapy [physiotherapy] gradually 7 days after the injection.
  • Contact your GP to arrange further follow-up and / or further investigations / images accordingly.
